14-yr-old Tokyo boy to be sent to medical reformatory for arson+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, April 24_(Kyodo) _ The Tokyo Family Court ordered Monday that a 14-year-old boy be sent to a medical reformatory for setting fire to his home in Tokyo in March in an incident resulting in the death of his 2-month-old sister and serious injuries to his parents.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, set fire to a magazine and a blanket in his room in the apartment where the family of four lived in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward at around 1:30 a.m. on March 9, according to the court.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office sent the boy to the court on March 29, recommending the court send him to a reformatory or equivalent. The court investigated his family environment and motive for the arson.
