12-year-old Boy Scares Off Burglary Suspect in Davis
DAVIS, Feb 13, 2012 (KTXL-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A brave 12-year-old Davis boy was able to scare off a burglary suspect by calling 9-1-1 and staying as calm as he could on the phone.
At around 8 a.m Monday, the Davis Police Department got a call from the boy, reporting that he thought someone was trying to break into his house on Carravaggio Drive.
The victim was home alone, when a stranger appeared at the front door.
When the boy did not answer the front door, the subject went around the house and tried to break in the back door.
FOX40 was able to obtain the 9-1-1 calls. Listen to them here.
"He's trying to break in through my door," the boy whispered to dispatchers.
Dispatchers told the boy to remain calm and to stay on the phone.
Seconds later, "I think he's in my house," the boy said.
"What's important is that you stay safe," the dispatcher said. "Put the phone down if you have to, but don't hang up."
The boy hid in his bathroom the whole time on the phone, while officers responded to the scene.
More than six officers with lights and sirens raced to his house, but by the time they got there, it appeared the suspect had already gotten away.
The suspect is described as a 30-year-old man, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
According to police, the 12-year-old did exactly what he was supposed to do.
The incident is under investigation by Davis Police.
