Unisys Corporation will be expanding its already established alliance with Microsoft (

Alert) via an offering of new solutions and services, according to a statement today from the company.
Unisys’ new messaging and unified communications services have been designed to assist businesses in using new Microsoft UC technologies to simplify and unify their communications platform.
These new services, together with such Microsoft technologies as Office Communicator 2007 and Exchange Server 2007, are expected to help organizations converge voice, data, and video technologies into a unified IP-based infrastructure. This in turn will enable faster and more accurate decision making, swifter access to information, and the ability to connect to each another regardless of location or mobile environment.
“As we investigated the increased capability of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, it was clear that we would need a new deployment strategy to fully utilize this functionality. This strategy also had to address any adverse environmental effects of server and data center sprawl,” said Maury Mitchell, director of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center, which recently went to Unisys to consolidate Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 onto a Unisys ES7000 server environment. “Consolidating Exchange Server 2007 onto the Unisys ES7000 gave us a real alternative to ‘old school’ scale-out-only approaches. We now have a flexible, rapid deployment foundation for future growth.”
Unisys solutions and services are built on the company’s long-running experience providing enterprise-class services that support Microsoft technologies. One of the largest providers of this type, Unisys is looking to provide clients with a simplified approach to creating, storing and retrieving communications and messages across a global organization, using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
The managed Exchange Server 2007 trial service that Microsoft and Unisys unveiled in April 2007 is another example of Unisys leadership in the Microsoft unified communications environment. The trial service permits Microsoft customers to do a “test run” of the latest version of Exchange Server. Since launching the service, Unisys is nearing 20,000 supported Microsoft users and is capable of handling many more. Unisys continues to see increased interest in Exchange Server 2007 and the Microsoft UC offerings across its enterprise customer base.
The Unisys professional services capabilities which support this initiative include:
* Security and networking
* Microsoft Exchange Server consolidation
* Disaster recovery services
* Identity and access management
* Unisys business blueprinting methodology and convergence roadmap development
* Infrastructure consulting
* Desktop and device life-cycle management
