Digipower Announces New In-Car Smartphone Charging System

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

With the massive popularity the smartphone has garnered these days, it’s no surprise that some companies are looking for new and innovative ways to capitalize. One way that companies are starting to branch out is to provide customers on the go a way to charge their phones

Gone are the days when a phone was sitting on a charger most of the day, now it is in a holster or a pocket or on occasion a car's drink carrier for the majority of its time. That can cause problems at the end of the day. That is one of the reasons a company called Digipower is getting set to roll out a new kind of in-car charging system.

The DrivePad is actually the world's first in-car wireless charging system for smartphones and it was unveiled this week at CES (News - Alert). Digipower didn't stop there, as they also rolled out a new kind of home charging system for the smartphone called the DeskPad. Digipower president Maurice Mizrahi detailed why he believes his company's newest device will become quite popular quite quickly.

He said, “With an innovative, sliding ‘SweetSpot’ charging pad for optimal charging performance, a flexible grip that holds smartphones of all sizes, a convenient FlexArm design and an auxiliary USB power port, the DrivePad truly is the ultimate in-car wireless charging solution.” Mizrahi also added that drivers won't have to fumble with cords or take the time to plug their phone in to charge.

The DrivePad has many features most drivers will take a shine to. The device, which will ship in March, has a flexible arm so drivers can position the phone however they like. There is also a pivot that allows the phone to either be set to landscape or portrait view. The DrivePad also features flexible grip pads to hold any smartphone and a 1A USB port so that you can actually charge a second device at the same time.

The DeskPad will also be hitting store shelves in March and will feature a perimeter lighting system that makes it easier to check the charging status no matter how the pad is set on the desk or nightstand. This pad too, will have a 1A USB port in order to charge a second device.
