Google's Rick Whitt Named Keynote Presenter for the Super WiFi Summit in Miami, February 1-3, 2012

Multiple Sessions Highlight Google’s Views on How the White Spaces Unlicensed Spectrum (News - Alert) Fosters Innovation and Provides new Service Delivery Alternatives for Local Providers

Norwalk, CT – January 3, 2012 – TMC and Crossfire Media today announced that Rick Whitt, Washington Telecom and Media Counsel for Google will be featured in multiple keynote sessions at the upcoming Super WiFi (News - Alert) Summit, which is taking place in Miami on February 1-3, 2012. In Whitt’s first session, which is scheduled to take place at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1st, he will discuss how the use of unlicensed spectrum, referred to as White Spaces, is fostering innovation and providing new mobile broadband alternatives for local providers.

This session will also discuss how the White Spaces database can safely allocate and facilitate the use of this spectrum. On Thursday, February 2nd at 9:00 AM, Whitt’s second keynote address will cover topics including Android, HTML5, and Google's overall wireless strategy.

Whitt is Director and Managing Counsel for Telecom and Media Policy for Google Inc. He is responsible for Google's strategy and advocacy on all wireline, wireless, and media matters before the Federal Communications Commission, other Federal agencies and the U.S. Congress. Whitt represents the company's interests on a variety of broadband and spectrum policy issues, as well as the “un-regulation” of VoIP and other Web-based applications.

In addition to his keynote addresses, Whitt will also lead a panel discussion entitled: “Sharing the Future of Spectrum” - on Friday, February 3rd at 9:00 AM. This session will expand the database discussion, to address the impact of spectrum on the development of 4G and 5G technologies.  Additional thought-leaders participating in this panel include:

  • Michael Calabrese, Director of the Wireless Future Program, New America Foundation
  • Barlow Keener (News - Alert), Attorney, Keener Law Group
  • Marty Stern, Partner, KL Gates LLC
  • Steve Coran, Attorney, Rini Coran, PC

“The unused portions of the UHF white space spectrum can drive down the costs of consumer broadband access and provide a range of new opportunities for service providers and device manufacturers – and we’re all looking forward to hearing Google’s perspective on this topic,” said event producer Carl Ford (News - Alert) of Crossfire Media.

The complete conference agenda for The Super WiFi Summit is now available online. The event is designed to help service providers, device manufacturers, enterprises and consumers understand opportunities that the unlicensed white space spectrum is creating, and it also presents strategies for the best ways to capitalize on these new opportunities.

Registration for the Super WiFi Summit is now open. Sponsorship, branding and advertising opportunities are available for Super WiFi, and interested parties should contact Matthew Gleeson at 203.852.6800 ext. 145. Members of the media can reserve media credentials by contacting Todd Keefe at For Immediate Release PR.
