ADTRAN Helps Power EarthLink Business Complete

By Paula Bernier, Executive Editor, TMC

EarthLink Inc. has tapped ADTRAN (News - Alert) to provide it with switches, routers and gateways to support the nationwide launch of the EarthLink Business Complete suite.

The EarthLink suite encompasses a portfolio of nationwide business-class voice, data, and Internet solutions. That includes hosted voice over IP applications and private MPLS networks with equipment, mobile and security options. It’s aimed at businesses of all sizes seeking fully customizable communications solutions.

“EarthLink is dedicated to delivering reliable, scalable communications services to help businesses of all sizes grow and thrive,” says Jim O’Brien, EarthLink executive vice president of network services and customer operations. “In ADTRAN we found an equipment partner that could position us to meet those needs. By combining ADTRAN’s NetVanta and Total Access solutions with the company’s unparalleled support, EarthLink is able to confidently offer its customers an advanced network management solution that is ideal for a company of any size and scale.”

ADTRAN’s NetVanta series of switches and routers and Total Access 900 series of IP Business Gateways will enable EarthLink to deliver a high level of quality of service related to this integrated, hosted network management solution, according to the service provider. The NetVanta Series product EarthLink is employing include the NetVanta 3000, NetVanta 4000 and NetVanta 5000 router product families, the NetVanta 6355 and the NetVanta 1000 switch family.

“EarthLink wanted to deliver unique, in-demand business-class services to create a clear and compelling differentiation in today’s competitive marketplace and ADTRAN’s solutions and support provide the definitive edge they need to win,” says Todd Lattanzi (News - Alert), senior product manager at ADTRAN’s Enterprise Networks Division. “ADTRAN combines industry-leading, integrated access functionality with a cost-effective IP network strategy to deliver the most advanced communication network solutions today and for the businesses of the future.”

At a press and analyst event earlier this month at the ADTRAN headquarters in Huntsville, Ala., CEO Tom Stanton said the company’s sales are up around 20 percent if you include expectations for this fourth quarter. ADTRAN achieved this continued growth, in part, by diversifying its customer base and sales channels. The company, best known as a supplier to tier 1 telcos, is increasingly courting and winning international carrier customers and tier 3s.

On the enterprise side, meanwhile, ADTRAN is increasing its VAR sales, which have grown six consecutive quarters. He talked about how ADTRAN is working to be more relevant to the VAR channel and customer base with its products, noting the company’s purchases of Bluesocket (News - Alert) and ObjectWorld. And Stanton added that all of ADTRAN’s enterprise channels have grown for at least four quarters.
