Kutcher Taking Break From Twitter After Embarrassing Tweets

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Twitter can serve a great purpose when it comes to getting a message out there. However, there are times when people need to realize that maybe the message needs to stay internalized. Twitter (News - Alert) has also benefited greatly for so many celebrities using the social networking service but after the events of the last few days, there may be a noticeably smaller representation of those celebrities for a while.

Ashton Kutcher has become the latest victim of foot-in-mouth disease (or whatever the Twitter equivalent is) after weighing in on the Joe Paterno situation at Penn State. Paterno has come under fire after it came to light that he knew that his former defensive coordinator was arrested for allegedly molesting children. Paterno was actually told about the incidents years before Jerry Sandusky was actually arrested.

Kutcher waded into his own trouble when he decided to tweet, “How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste.” As the day went on, Kutcher added some other tweets that seemed to contradict his initial outrage. “Heard Joe was fired, fully recant previous tweet!”

And then, “Didn’t have full story. #admitwhenYoumakemistakes.” Since then, all the Tweets that regarded this situation have been deleted and Kutcher has announced that he will be taking a break from Twitter for a little while.

“As of immediately I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed,” tweeted Kutcher “I feel awful about this error. Won’t happen again.” What exactly Kutcher means by “properly manage” this feed is a bit of a question, since most people assumed that Kutcher was already managing his Twitter feed.

This may mean that Kutcher actually has someone tweet in his name, as some other celebrities and political officials do. It could also mean that Kutcher is artfully trying to say that he tweeted without really have a clue about the situation and he's embarrassed.

Kutcher has not said when he might be returning to Twitter, but it is a safe bet that this self-imposed hiatus won't be lasting all that long.
