Audi Teaming With YouTube to Give Users a Virtual Test Drive

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

For those who have been tweeting their little fingers off in order to drive an Audi R8 with no success, there may be an alternative. Audi, one of the most active social networking car companies in the world has come up with another way for people to drive one of its top car models. The Audi R8 is still a better deal because if you are actually picked by the company you can drive this sports car for the day. Who wouldn’t want to be behind the wheel of one of these machines? Audi and YouTube (News - Alert) have combined to put out an interactive video that will allow you to “drive” an Audi A6.

Audi has made quite a name for itself lately with its ability to connect with potential customers, and its latest stunt might be the best way to get people to see what it has to offer. The YouTube video is geared so that the press of a button will make the car in the video do different things. If you are able to time the button pushes just right you will actually get to see how the car handles around an obstacle course of traffic cones. Best of all, users don’t need to win any sort of contest to do this, simply go to the video and watch the short introduction of what buttons do what and you’re good to go.

Obviously it would be cooler if you could get behind the wheel for real, instead of being a virtual back seat driver, but the company has been smart enough to acknowledge there is another way to show off its product. The video is two minutes long and works by using the pressing of the keys to skip to different sections of the video. This basically makes it look as though you are driving around an every changing, or very familiar looking depending on the buttons course. The video will show you how the car takes turns, stops on dime or accelerates quickly.
