Sony Pictures Buys Rights to Steve Jobs Biography, Already Has a Producer

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

The man has been billed as a visionary and someone who moved our society forward technologically. It appears now that different companies are lining up in order to make sure that the man is billed as a true American legend as well. With Steve Jobs passing, there has been no lack of interest in the back-story of Apple’s (News - Alert) co-founder.

While a biographical comic was rushed out to certain eReaders in order to fill in some of the gaps, it was announced that Sony Pictures has purchased the rights to make a biographical film of Jobs.

Therefore, now that the questions like “how did it happen” and “when exactly did it happen” the questions are going to start to be “who will play him.” Steve Jobs fans can rest assured that it doesn’t appear this will be the kind of movie that will portray him in an unfair and inaccurate way.

Sony has purchased the rights to the authorized biography that was written by Walter Isaacson. Of course, it is the “authorized” portion that is really the most important. Apple supporters can expect to see any number of unauthorized biographies pop up over the next few years in which Jobs will most likely be accused of everything under the sun.

This particular authorized biography has not actually even been published, illustrating just how big the rush to cash in on Jobs has become. Issacson’s book is based on more than 40 interviews of the Apple’s former CEO and is 450 pages. While financial details of the deal haven’t been released, rumors were floating around shortly after Jobs’ death that Sony was willing to pony up as many as $1 million for the rights.

So now that the company has secured their rights, and apparently already found a producer (Saving Private Ryan’s Mark Gordon) the guessing will almost certainly heat up on who will get the lead role. It should be pointed out that Noah Wyle is already going to be playing Steve Jobs (News - Alert) in the upcoming movie “Pirates of Silicon Valley.” Would Sony go back to the well and have Wyle reprise his role?
