The Incredible Potential of Digital Eventing, from the WSOP to WWDC21

Digital events are events that take place online and involve people interacting in a virtual environment on the internet, as opposed to meeting in a designated physical location. Over the past year, digital events have soared in popularity. More and more people are paying to attend them and so businesses are now hoping to capitalise on this trend and host virtual events themselves. Though some were cynical about this new form of technology to begin with, it seems likely many of these events are becoming the future of entertainment. As such, in our article today, we are going to be discussing all the reasons why digital eventing has so much potential. Read on to find out more!

Greater Accessibility

Most people don’t attend events in person for accessibility reasons. They might not be able to afford to travel to a physical location and pay for accommodation. They could have a disability which limits their freedom of movement. They might simply be unable to take all the time off work needed to travel to a different country. Whatever the reason might be, digital events offer a great solution to the problem.

So long as you have a device that can connect to the internet, then you can attend a digital event! For example, casino websites and table game platforms like GGPoker are now offering customers the chance to book a seat at the WSOP (World Series of Poker) through a digital event. This tournament usually takes place in Las Vegas, making it difficult for people who live outside the borders of the United States to attend. Nowadays, this is not such a problem as it was in the past!

Less Expensive

Like we mentioned before, attending an event is usually expensive. Customers have to pay for travel, accommodation, food, and other amenities, which can sometimes put them off attending. But physical events aren’t just expensive for the spectators. If you are organising the occasion, then you are going to have to obliterate your bank account, too. There is everything from the venue and ticketing to stage directions and refreshments to consider. Digital events, on the other hand, are much less expensive for both the spectator and organiser. Obviously, you will need to pay for a tech team, streaming platform and other miscellaneous expenses, but otherwise they are affordable. The same goes for attendees. No longer do you have to worry about travel costs, booking a hotel, or getting food whilst attending the event. You can just sit back and enjoy everything from the comfort of your home!

Eco-Friendly

Climate change is a massive issue across the globe. Collectively, we all need to do more to protect the environment from CO2 emissions, pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. But what exactly do virtual events have to do with the environment? Well, they provide an eco-friendly alternative to attending a physical venue. Have you ever considered how many CO2 emissions one event can contribute to air pollution?

Thousands of people travel to and from the venue, alongside staff and performers. In addition to this, the amount of rubbish that is left behind by crowds at events can be devastating for the local environment. We’ve all seen the aftermath of a festival or football game, right? With a digital event, none of these things are a problem. People don’t have to travel to attend, saving a staggering amount of fuel and reducing air pollution. Organisers no longer have to worry about cleaning up after a digital event, either. All in all, the environmental benefits are huge.

These are some of the main reasons why digital eventing has such a massive amount of potential. So, next time you are thinking about attending an event, why not go virtually instead?
