Is It Time to Buy a New Computer? Here's How to Tell How

It really doesn't matter what brand or type of computer you bought in the past, eventually it will become old and obsolete. That's not an insult, it's just the nature of technology. You don't need to wait until your computer completely fails to get a new one. Here are some signs to watch for so you can be prepared to purchase a new computer when the time comes.

It's a Daily Necessity

If you only used a computer occasionally when you first bought it, but now find that it is an integral part of your life, it is time to update your computer. It doesn't have to be this year's model, but it should certainly be made within the last 2-3 years. This will ensure you bought a modern computer but didn't break the bank to do so.

Running Slow

If your computer is running slow, there are a few minor troubleshooting steps you can follow such as running an antivirus program as well as defragmenting the hard drive. However, if these do not speed up the computer then it is most definitely time to purchase a new computer. A slow system means that you are losing money and/or time because it is taking longer than it should to get things done.

Weird Noises

While computers typically make noises from the fan or a drive, there should definitely not be any noises such as clicking or scraping coming from the computer. If you find this is happening, consider taking out a personal loan to purchase a new computer. It may seem extravagant, but the trade-off is not being able to get work done or perform research for school projects. A personal loan will pay for itself with the increase in productivity and entertainment options you'll be able to enjoy. Since these types of loans are for rather small amounts, the interest rate will correspondingly also be low. When requesting the loan, make sure to factor in everything you may need to go with the new computer, such as printers, speakers, and a new ergonomic desk or chair.

Behind the Times

If you are starting to feel like you are behind the times because there is certain software or games you are unable to install on your computer, it's a good sign you need a new computer. Keep in mind that if the operating system is out-of-date, it may be unsupported by the manufacturer which leads to huge security risks. There is never a good reason to knowingly leave your personal and financial information at risk. The damage that hackers or identity thieves can do far outweighs the cost of a personal loan.

It Costs More to Fix It Than to Replace It

This should be fairly obvious to anyone. If you bring your computer into the repair shop and they tell you it will cost you more to fix it than to simply buy a new one, the answer is clear as to what to do. Go to your favorite computer store or online retailer and see what they have available
