What Should You Look for In an Offshore Developer?

If you have even gone through the process of hiring an offshore development team, then you know how hard it is. With so many options in the market at the moment, it is tough to find out who is for real and who is a fake.

Development teams are obviously not going to be cheap, so it is smart to make a well-informed decision before you move forward with them. Picking the wrong team could be a disaster because you likely will not get your money back and it will set your timeline back.

If you can use these tips to make your hiring process better, then it will absolutely worth it.

Identify Locations that You Want to Work With

If you are experienced in the world of offshore developers, then you know which areas are better than others for certain jobs. For instance, if you have a certain type of job that is perfect for developers in Ukraine, then you obviously hire software developers in Ukraine that will be a good fit for your job.

Being able to identify development teams that are a fit based on their location is going to give you the upper hand in the market. There are obviously differences between certain regions and depending on the region there might be price differences and differences in quality of work. Experience in the industry is the only way to know about nuances like that.

Positive Experiences

The next point is fairly obvious, but many people seem to overlook it. When you buy a product off of Amazon or any website, I can guarantee that you are factoring in the reviews that the product has. If you are not doing that with offshore developers, then you are setting yourself up for lots of failures.

You should do your own due diligence and figure out which developers have the best reviews. If they offer products at a good price and they have a positive set of reviews from people in your industry, then you can assume that they are a great option. Working with a company that has not proven itself in the market is usually a mistake.

The only time that it would make sense is if the company is charging you a low rate because they have not proven themselves.

Specialization

The last thing that you need to be on the lookout for is developers that specialize in exactly what you need. There really is no point in working with someone that is not an expert in the job that you need finished.

There is no point in hiring offshore developers if they are not very experienced in the project that you need to be completed. If you are not confident in their work and resume, then you are likely going to be disappointed in what they have to offer.

If you are going to work with an offshore team, make sure that they specialize in your work and they have a great record of previous work.
