Braincat: Organization Software that Teaches You How to Think

A new app in the beta stage of development is changing the way users come up with and organize ideas. Braincat is designed to streamline the brainstorming process, whether it be for a collaborative work project, a creative or writing endeavor, or personal projects like event planning and decision making. While there are many varieties of mind mapping and collaboration programs out there already, users love Braincat because it actually alters the thought process and leaves users with valuable mind organization skills. Now you’re probably thinking, how can an app do that?

The Braincat Process

Unlike other brainstorming or mind mapping software that simply allows you to connect text items with arrows and move them around on a white space, Braincat guides your thought process from start to finish.

Step 1: Discover

Braincat is equipped with an entire library of question prompts tailored to your project type designed to get you thinking about the topic in creative ways. Discover new perspectives, assess problems, and reframe your state of mind as you answer these questions. You can give as many answers as you want, or none, to each question. Additionally, you can skip the discover step altogether.

Step 2: Input

Now is the time to empty your mind. Input all of your thoughts, ideas, wonders, concerns, and considerations in the order that they come to you. This step can be a cathartic experience for those with cluttered minds as it helps to take some weight off of your brain, especially if you find yourself having various random thoughts about a project throughout the day. You don’t have to worry about the significance of your ideas at this step, simply jot them all down. You should be left feeling cleared up and ready to analyze your information. There is also an option to upload a CSV file or word document to integrate existing notes into Braincat. Some users are using typing into Braincat when they have an idea related, using it instead of scribbling a Sticky Note, and returning to the project later.

Tip: One of the best ways to get started with Braincat is to do what is known as a brain sweep – start with the input step, and simply enter everything that’s on your mind. This gets you familiar with the practice of clearing your mind and recording all of your thoughts as they enter your brain.

Step 3: Categorize

At this step, you will be able to see all of your inputted items in a single list, and you can review, edit, remove, or add new items at any time. For each item on the list, you will assign a category or topic that you have created. As you categorize each item you will notice similarities between your items and begin to see patterns, to realize how they interact in the grand scheme of things. The drag and drop technology works particularly smoothly in this step. Practicing categorization of your thoughts gives you a greater understanding of your own mind and complex projects.

Step 4: Sequence

Once you have created buckets for all of your raw information, you will sequence, or determine the order of those buckets. This can be a sequential order in a process, or an order of priority, whatever makes the most sense to you. This is your chance to analyze the relationships between the essential parts of your project. The nature of Braincat is to start with small, complex, detailed information that clutters your mind, and boil it all down step by step into one main idea or ultimate focus. After your categories are organized, you finally get to name your big idea, and decide what all of these thoughts are really about.

Step 5: Output

Finally, Braincat processes all of this information and produces a variety of outputs of your data that you can rearrange, edit, and easily share with others. View your project information as an outline, a visual mind map, or see just the categories. Export your information as a CSV file to integrate it with other software or send it directly to others.

Who Uses Braincat?

Anyone can benefit from thinking better. That is why Braincat has a wide variety of starting questions to suit different kinds of projects or creative processes. They can help you organize your thoughts on any topic or discover brand new ideas. Some of the most popular ways to use Braincat include:
