The Perks of Being a Late Adopter of Technology

Are you someone who buys the latest gadgets the moment they are launched?

Believe it or not, your habit can be doing your more harm than good! As it turns out, buying technology products right when they are launched may not be a good idea. It's better to be a late adopter, watching every technology with a critical eye and buying only when it makes sense.

Smartphones a decade back cost a lot. Even the latest iPhone (News - Alert), which costs over $1000 at launch, is available for nearly half the price a couple of years later. The change has been across all niche. If you play games online with a Tropicana online casino code, for instance, you will know how much the gaming industry has changed. Before, you wouldn’t find many reliable and trustworthy online gaming sites. Today, it’s different, another testimony to how tech has changed our lives.

So, what advantages can you get by being a late adopter?

1. Lower Prices

When Apple (News - Alert) came out with the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017, it was priced at $330. But a year later, stores like Amazon and Best Buy were selling it at $200.

The Motorola (News - Alert) DynaTac 8000X cost $ $3,995 in 1983, equivalent to $9,800 in today’s dollars. The mobile had a size of a large brick and could only make calls. Today, you can buy a Motorola phone for as low as $230, which can browse the internet and weighs only a few ounces.

You can always enjoy lower prices by being a late adopter.

2. Better Products

Waiting a few years before buying your gadget can get you a more reliable and improved product. Take Samsung (News - Alert) Galaxy Fold for example. Samsung had to defer the launch of their foldable mobile phone as early samples broke during reviewing.

We can also talk about software and games here. The first versions contain various bugs and glitches which are resolved by the company over time. So if you wait, you can get gadgets and applications free from problems, performance issues and malfunctions.

3. Prevent Obsolescence

When we grew up, audio cassettes were the latest fads. They replaced the LPs of the 1970s and provided more convenience. Gradually, cassettes also became obsolete and were replaced by CDs, mp3 players, and ultimately streaming media.

You can experience the same with other technologies. For instance, if you didn't buy an e-reader or mp3 player, you saved yourself the cost and trouble as a smartphone is sufficient for meeting those needs.

Waiting on Tech can Pay Off

Late adopters help companies create more user-friendly and better products, according to the Nova School of Business and Economics. You should also wait a bit before jumping on new tech products to enjoy more reliability, cost-effectiveness and improvement.
