The Latest Construction Equipment For Your Job Site

Construction equipment is important to increase work efficiency in any construction site. Thus it is best to be aware of the various types of equipment and their use.

The type of project that you are conducting is what is going to determine the type of construction equipment which will be used.

The Top Construction Equipment You Need for Your Site

The following are some of the latest construction equipment that is used by contractors.

1. Excavators

An excavator is a must have heavy equipment needed in any construction site. There are two types of excavators:- those on wheels and those on tracks. A lot of contractors prefer the ones on tracks since they are easier, convenient and more efficient.

Excavators are used to performing important tasks such as- digging, heavy lifting, demolition, mining and grading.

Over the recent years, there has been a lot of development in terms of technology advancement. There are already remote-controlled excavators such as the EC280 Excavator. You can use auction sites like Equify to help you buy construction equipment like this for less.

2. Backhoe Loaders

A lot of people might compare backhoe loaders to tractors, but they have a slight difference. A backhoe has a shovel at the front and a small bucket at the back of the loader used for digging.

The backhoe loader is the most common type of loader because it can perform a wide range of operations. The best part is that it has tires mounted which can access urbanized area and patios.

3. Bulldozers

This is one of the most powerful and efficient type of construction equipment available. Bulldozers have become the most reliable type of heavy equipment used to remove dirt over a large tract of land. They can also be used for rough and fine grading.

Bulldozers can be operated with two hydraulic pistons which allow the blade to operate at different angles.

4. Motor Graders

The work of a grader is similar to that of a bulldozer. But a grader is only used for fine grading. They are used for fine grade dirt or to prepare the base course before applying asphalt as well as creating drainage surfaces.

They normally have a second blade at the front of the axle making it suitable for mining.

5. Scrapers

A scraper can work on a construction site without the need of additional equipment. This type of heavy equipment is only suitable for large open areas.

A scraper is used to move dirt and facilitate cut and fill activities at a higher speed.

6. Crawler loaders.

A crawler loader has the stability of a crawler tractor but the ability of a wheel loader. However, a crawler loader is designed for a specific purpose, and it does not just entail attaching a bucket to the loader.

When hydraulic excavators were introduced in the construction market crawler loaders deemed unable to match their capabilities. However, crawler loaders are still reliable since they can manoeuvre around a construction site easily. On the other hand, hydraulic excavators have to be towed or transported to the construction site.

They are used to dump spoils or soil in different locations at the construction site.

7. Trenchers.

The trencher is a huge piece of construction equipment which is used to dig trenches where pipes can be laid down.

Trenches come in different sizes that are implemented differently depending with the type, width and hardness of the surface. They include:-

  • Wheel trencher.
  • Chain trencher.
  • Micro trencher.
  • Portable trencher.
  • Tractor mounted trencher.

Hard surfaces use trencher models such as walk-behind modules, small sized operated trencher and heavy trenching equipment. They are also used to trench asphalt surfaces.

Always ensure caution when handling trenchers because they are very dangerous.

8. Dump Trucks.

Dump trucks are a necessity in every construction site. They are simply the backbone of the entire process. They come in all shapes and sizes.

Most of the times when we think about dump trucks they are large vehicles with a "tray" on the back that can easily be tipped. The tipping action ensures that loads can be moved more easily.

Dump trucks drivers need to learn how to "dump and go".  This process involves dumping contents on the construction site while still moving the truck.

However, there is another addition to the dump truck family which is essential during road construction: the water truck.

Sure, water tanks are different when it comes to shape and size. However, when compared to dump trucks they practically have the same operating skills. However, water truck drivers need to be steady during operations since they do not know have to tip the water content. They have to move steadily while spreading the water.

9. Cranes.

Cranes have a very important role at the construction site. They are used to move, lift, lower and raise objects. Cranes are fast and make the work easier at the site.

They normally work with hoists, ropes, wires and sheaves. They come in different shapes and sizes depending on the type of work needed to be done. For instance, tower cranes can be used to build high buildings; mini cranes are used to reach impossible places during construction while small Jib cranes can be used in a workshop.

The work at a construction site can be dangerous, and the integration of advanced technological equipment has made the work safer.

Nowadays most cranes use hydraulic systems, electric motors and internal combustion engines.
