Ideas to Enhance the Security of your Wireless System

Wi-Fi is an entry-point for hackers to get into a network without entering in the building because wireless is open to spies than wired networks. It means you should have a proper arrangement for your online security. A simple password can’t protect your Wi-Fi. You have to learn about better security measures for the protection of your network. Here are some simple steps that can help you to protect your Wi-Fi from hackers.

Use SSID (an inconspicuous name of network)

The SSID (service set identifier) is the primary network settings for Wi-Fi. Your network name could be the reason for compromising security. Use of a common SSID, such as default name or wireless can make it easy for a hacker to crack the personal mode of WPA2 or WPA security. It is all about encryption algorithm that incorporates SSID. Hackers use password cracking dictionaries that are preloaded with default and common SSIDs. If you are using any one of them, you can make the job of hackers easy. This vulnerability may not apply to networks with the use of WPA2 or WPA security.

You should wisely choose a name for network and avoid common names without revealing your location. It is not a good idea to select suite number, address or company name in SSID number. It is essential if you have a network in one shared building. The hackers try to target the easiest networks in a congested area. You can turn off the broadcast of SSID to make your network invisible.

Reminisce Physical Security

Wireless security is not about fancy protocols and technologies. You can gave the best possible encryption, but it is also vulnerable. Physical security is a vulnerability. You can’t get sufficient protection by locking down your wireless closets.

Numerous Aps (access points) have a reset button that a user can press to restore default settings. It will remove your Wi-Fi security and give access to anyone to access this connection. Aps should be physically protected to prevent tampering. Make sure to mount them away from the reach of intruders.

Use Enterprise 802.1x WPA2 Authentication

A useful security mechanism for Wi-Fi is to deploy its enterprise mode to authenticate each user individually. Everyone should have its password and username for Wi-Fi. If a mobile or laptop device is stolen or a worker leaves a company, you can revoke or change that specific log-in of the user.

Enterprise mode is useful because every user has his/her key of encryption. It means users may only decrypt traffic data for their personal connection – no prying on another person from wireless traffic.

To put Aps into originality mode, you have to set up a RADIUS server. It allows authentication of the user and connects to directory or database that holds passwords and usernames of everyone. You can use RADIUS server; you must check if other servers deliver this function. Their limited functionality can make these servers useful for small networks.

If you need enhanced security for your business network, you can contact a professional developer, such as https://vironit.com. They can find loopholes in the safety of your network.
