Easier for Business to Share Content, Communicate Using SmartBox from PanTerra

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

The sharing of content and communicating are two priorities for companies who need to conduct business in the current telecom environment.

So PanTerra (News - Alert) Networks has come up with a way to make these requirements much easier to achieve. Its SmartBox solution was summed up by company president and CEO Arthur Chang (News - Alert) as being “like Skype meets Dropbox.”

He further explained in an interview with TMC’s Rich Tehrani at ITEXPO Las Vegas, “It’s really the concept of putting together the two most used services that every company needs to conduct business, which is shared content and communicate, [as well as] collaborate about that content.”

Looking at IT needs, given the new technology out there, which replaces old systems, why should there be different services when they can be combined?

“We’ve actually put them all together in a single source called SmartBox, available on your desktop, on your mobile devices,” Chang said. “Now you can share, communicate and collaborate all in one application.”

For instance, SmartBox lets users share files with co-workers, clients and partners. Sharing is easy, as well, with users controlling share privileges, and files can be uploaded and shared from any device. As an added plus, SmartBox lets users track when someone opens and downloads the content. And SmartBox's integrated unified communications make connections easier. After the first time a user shares content with a group of users, SmartBox will provide every share user's contact info and provides real-time presence for each share user, the company said.

When it comes to communications, SmartBox lets users receive call recordings, email archives, faxes, IM archives, system logs and voicemail – all in one storage cloud. It is easy to use, too, given, for instance, the ability to listen to call recordings from the browser.

SmartBox also provides many benefits for companies concerned about security. And given the amount of attacks and breaches that occur worldwide, who isn’t trying to avoid cyberattacks or cyberthefts?

Their offering encrypts communications and content whether it is in transit or at rest. “If someone for example were to break into our service, they wouldn’t get a password, they couldn’t get an email address, they couldn’t get an address, they couldn’t get any information because it’s encrypted, even at rest,” Chang said. In other words, the service offers everyone the level of security associated with HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.)

Remember too that for businesses considering using SmartBox, the move is easy given that the company offers a free version. Then, when a company wants the added features found with the paid version, it can be installed just by a click of a button.
