6 Easy Ways to Improve Your Earnings Per Click (EPC)

As an online publisher or affiliate marketer, your ultimate goal is to make the most money for each and every click that you generate. However, while that may seem pretty straightforward, it’s easier said than done. There are a number of different factors that play into a publisher’s earnings per click (EPC), and in this post, we will look at five easy ways to improve your EPC.

 Find the Highest Paying Merchants

If you want to generate the highest ROI for each of your clicks, then you need to know which merchants are offering the highest payouts for your specific links and do your best to appeal to them and their audience. EPCs are not standardized and every merchant will likely offer different payouts for clicks. Do some research and find out which merchants are willing to pay the most for your particular links.

As a rule of thumb, larger retailers tend to pay more for content links, although that’s not always the case. If you want to ensure that you’re linking to the highest paying merchants, you should consider finding a link optimization tool to use.

 Stay Current

One easy way to drive up your EPC is to take advantage of different holiday seasons and link to products or services that are related to an upcoming holiday. For example, during February, try to link to flower and gift sites, and leading up to Halloween, link to the party stores and online costume shops.

If you are able to rank for specific search queries that are relevant during holidays, you can easily increase your traffic and your conversions, which will obviously help increase your EPC.

Fast Hosting

What most people don’t realize about EPC’s is that if people aren’t staying on your site, they will never click on your ads or in-content links.  This is bad for business.  Keep your hosting fast and reliable.  I recommend a new free hosting service called Hostt.  There are also much more expensive alternatives.  Try and get in their beta and you’ll get some slick hosting that never goes down for a price that won’t break the bank.

Know What Type of Site Earns Most

It’s also important to understand that different types of publisher sites will garner different EPCs. From an advertiser’s perspective, there are certain types of sites that send more valuable or higher converting traffic than others, so if you want to increase your earnings per click, you should be aware of this.

Typically deal and coupon sites earn the highest payouts per click because their traffic is in the buying mindset, which makes them more valuable to merchants. Editorial sites, on the other hand, tend to receive the lowest earnings per click.

 Focus on Desktop for Now

Mobile marketing has been a hot topic for the past few years, mainly because we all know that mobile is the future. However, the fact of the matter is, mobile still hasn’t caught up to desktop when it comes to marketing performance.

Although mobile is generating nearly half of all daily web traffic, mobile earnings per click are only $0.50 for every $1 on desktop. So even though we expect mobile to become the predominant platform for commerce and overall online activity, it still isn’t as valuable as its desktop counterpart.

Always Link to the Highest Bidder

According to a report by VigLink, competition in the marketplace plays an integral role in driving up publisher EPCs. Ultimately the more competition that exists in the market place, the higher earnings per click will be. Thus, it’s important for online publishers to try and always link to the highest paying merchant and not to just any old site. Encouraging marketplace competition for links will ensure that publishers will receive the highest payouts for their links.
