JAUNT Chooses New Technology Partner to Improve Transportation Systems

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

JAUNT, a regional transportation system in Virginia that provides service to Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louis, Nelson, and Buckingham counties, has chosen a new technology partner. That partner, RouteMatch Software, provides technologies that “address routing, scheduling, dispatching, billing, reporting, fixed route, and CAD/AVL, flex route, demand response, business analytics, traveler information services, and more.”

Some of the solutions that JAUNT will be taking advantage of include routing, dispatching, scheduling, and reporting, as well as their mobile data management solution. According to a recent statement from RouteMatch, JAUNT will be able to utilize such functions for pre and post trip vehicle inspection, which can improve time-keeping and payroll.

This comes on the heels of the announcement that Nashua, New Hampshire will be utilizing RouteMatch to improve their operations. The case studies offered on the RouteMatch website demonstrate a number of key benefits to public transportation systems. For example, South Central Arkansas Transit’s results included optimized routes, cost savings, improved regional coordination, and greater operational efficiencies.

Brad Sheffield, the assistant director of JAUNT, says that the company decided to seek out a new technology provider because they had a need for greater efficiency, which many of the key benefits of RouteMatch should facilitate. They chose RouteMatch “due to the simplicity of their user interface and the flexibility of their solution.” He adds that JAUNT was looking for more than just a vendor: “We were seeking a partner who could set us up for the next 10 years and who could respond to changes in the market and quickly employ emerging technologies.”

According to a statement from RouteMatch, it will not just be JAUNT’s operations and bottom line that benefit. The executive vice president of RouteMatch, Tim Quinn, explained that JAUNT has already started “extending” the technologies offered by their company “in ways that make a profound impact on their operations and quality of service.”
