Saks Shoppers Can Now Virtually 'Try On' Clothes

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

Most people know how disappointing it is to order an item online and have it arrive, only to find out that it doesn’t fit or isn’t flattering. Saks Fifth Avenue is looking to change this unfortunate aspect of online shopping, thanks to their new partnership with Stylewhile. Together, they will be launching an iPad app that Stylewhile says is, “set to change the face of online shopping.” This new app will allow its users to fit the clothing that they are ordering to their body type before purchasing it.

The CEO of Stylewhile, Jutta Haaramo, says that Stylewhile will be offering Saks full exclusivity at launch for one month, beginning in early November—giving Saks a leg up on the holiday shopping season. After the one-month phase is over, Saks will be the only luxury multi-brand retailer to offer Stylewhile for an additional six months, but the ability to use Stylewhile will start popping up at other online apparel sites. She is enthusiastic about the app; “Both Stylewhile and Saks Fifth Avenue customers are women who love fashion and trying out new things. This new App will make their online shopping easier and more fun.”

Haarmo adds that Stylewhile has big goals. She says that it is the company’s dream to build an app that will help women find and buy the items that they are looking for, “so that there would be a lot less of those ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments or ‘this looks different in person than it did online!’”

Now, women who shop online at Saks will be able to ensure that their Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress fits just so before they order. As retailers scramble to put their finishing touches on their online strategies for the holiday season, it seems that Saks Fifth Avenue is fully prepared with an advantage that no amount of perfecting PPC ads and adding call center staff can offer their competitors.
