With Alternate Solution, CompanionLink Eases Cloud Skeptics' Concerns

By Kelsey Brown, TMCnet Contributing Writer

While cloud-based technology has become quite prevalent over the last few years, it seems that many users or would-be users are finding themselves concerned with potential security risks the technology could present. Specifically, Chi Onwurah, MP of Newcastle Central, UK, and Labour shadow Cabinet Office minister, recently made her issues with the cloud known, noting that she’s particularly hesitant to store her data using the technology in conjunction with current devices, such as the Android (News - Alert) or iPhone.

Evidently, Onwurah is not alone in her hesitation. Recent reports have shown that many users are wary of storing their contacts, calendar, and other notes on the cloud, for fear of unintentionally sharing their data with outside parties.

CompanionLink Software, Inc., a company that works to develop data synchronization solutions for various mobile phone brands, recognizes this concern of Onwurah and others. By way of its blog, the company has addressed such concerns and provided potential suggestions for hesitant cloud users to move forward with utilizing the technology.

Even CompanionLink Software CTO Wayland Bruns spoke on the issue, relating with concerned users and reassuring them that his company offers solutions or alternatives to cloud-based technology and usage. In a statement, Bruns said, “Ms. Onwurah represents a growing group of professionals who are concerned with cloud security, and wonder why older secure sync methods are not supported in today’s phones. CompanionLink shares Ms. Onwurah’s concerns about cloud security and offers secure and direct USB and WiFi sync with Android, Apple (News - Alert), Windows Phone, and BlackBerry phones and tablets. CompanionLink is not against the cloud and offers their own DejaCloud service. We stand to ensure people can use the old secure methods as an option.”

Having been in the market for more than 15 years, CompanionLink Software has been able to develop and further hone DejaCloud and has successfully been able to mobilize information across numerous devices, computers, applications, and Web-based services. As such, the company will do its name justice and serve Onwurah and others well as a good companion to those easing into a new age of technology.
