Adobe Keeps Photoshop and Premiere Elements Alive with New Releases

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Many were concerned when Adobe (News - Alert) launched its Creative Cloud software service earlier this year. After all, this meant that consumers too were required to purchase a cloud subscription if they wanted to remain current with Adobe’s Creative Suite, which includes its popular Photoshop image editing software, along with the likes of Premiere and Publisher.

While the $49.99-per-month subscription fee is no doubt worth it for prosumers and professionals, however, the average consumer was left wondering where they stood. Fortunately, Adobe is continuing to offer its more basic Elements line of products, which includes Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. Even better, the company has rolled out a new version of the suite for Windows and Mac users.

Adobe Premier and Photoshop Elements 12 continue the tradition of their predecessors, offering access to select features of their Creative Cloud counterparts with easier-to-comprehend interfaces. Of course, a new version release includes new features, most notably mobile integration.

Both Photoshop and Premiere Elements 12 feature Mobile Albums, allowing them to integrate with Revel, Adobe’s cloud photo storage solution. With this support, Elements 12 users can access their photos and videos on pretty much any mobile device. This includes the ability to edit pictures while on the go, or upload video to various sites, such as Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter (News - Alert) and more.

"Our customers have a lot of photos and videos, and they love to use their home computers to organize them and be creative, but they also want the freedom and flexibility to view, edit and share on their mobile devices," said Lea Hickman, vice president of products for the Creative Consumer Business at Adobe, in a statement. "Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 will provide customers with the best of both worlds, quickly, easily and at their discretion."

Other new features in Photoshop Elements 12 include Content-Aware (News - Alert) Move, which autofills the background of an object that has been moved within a photo, Pet Eye Correction, and Smart Auto Tone which learns a user’s editing preferences for faster adjustments.

Premiere Elements 12, meanwhile, also features Auto Smart Tone, along with over 50 new soundtracks and 250 sound effects.
