Let’s get one thing straight: everyone gets scared before a first date. (If you don’t, everyone is jealous of you.) It’s hard not to think of everything that could go wrong, even if you’ve got a good feeling. But to all those nervous singles out there trying on their millionth outfit before the big night, fear not – two top companies have gone on a successful “first date” to ease all your worries.
Dating website Match.com has teamed up with digital music service Spotify to release the best music to listen to before or during a date. Seventy-eight percent of the men and women surveyed called music a “must” in preparing for a date, and the statistics showed preferences between men and women as to their favorite jams.

For instance, the summer smash hit “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke dominated for women in a few categories; however, both men and women showed loyalty to the classics, citing Marvin Gaye as the sexiest artist to play on a date and classic rock as the best turn-on. Fifty-seven percent of men said they got ready for a date while listening to classic rock, although fifty-four percent of women preferred pop or top 40. Rap, country and heavy metal music were named “mood killers” for men and women alike.
In terms of favorite artists, 40 percent of men listed Taylor Swift (News - Alert) as their music crush (more than twice the votes of the second-place winner Rihanna, coming in at 19 percent). One-third of women listed, of course, Robin Thicke as their music crush. And as they’re walking out the door to that first date, half of the men surveyed said they channel smooth-singing Justin Timberlake, while over a quarter of women named their idol as the edgy P!nk.
The Match.com and Spotify (News - Alert) playlist spans all of these responses, and if you’ve got the pre-date jitters, take a breath and pump it up before you head out.
