Internet Browser for the Younger Set

By Melissa Warten, Contributing Writer

It’s always been said that the younger generation is better at handling technology than their parents, but sometimes it seems like technology just isn’t catering to them – there are games for children, there are work-and employment-oriented resources for adults, and there isn’t much for ages in between. But, with a new Internet browser from the Turkish communication center Turkcell, a nice middle ground may have been achieved.

Turkcell has collaborated with international search engine Yandex (News - Alert) to create a youth Internet browser under “gnctrkcll.” The browser boasts a number of features to appeal to the younger, more tech-savvy generation.  Turkcell (News - Alert) had 34.9 million subscribers as of March 2013, and with this new browser the company hopes to reach even more.

The browser features a “smart search” line, in which users can type either website addresses or specific search questions to generate results. The home interface also features additional information like weather, local traffic or notifications from social media. The convenient setting “turbo mode” kicks in if Internet connection speed drops, which can also save on Internet usage quotas. Users can sync their preferences across multiple computers, and even change the background of their home page to a customized picture.

In terms of security, the new browser utilizes the Kaspersky anti-virus system, which warns users against harmful sites and automatically performs safety scans on downloads.

According to Turkcell chief consumer marketing officer Burak Sevilengul, “Yandex, which has recently increased competition in the search engine and Internet browser sector with its dynamic approach, makes it possible for young people to access information at speed with flexibility and customized advanced solutions.”

With these personalized browser solutions, the younger generation now has access to a perfect balance of youth and efficiency, putting technology back in the hands of a population who is well able to handle it.
