MTS Launches DSL in Four Cottage Communities in Canada

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

The vast majority of cities in developed countries have broadband speeds in their communities, but there are still pockets of rural and cottage communities where this technology is not available. In Canada, MTS, the leading telecommunications provider in Manitoba, is launching high-speed DSL Internet service in Falcon Lake, West Hawk Lake, Victoria Beach and Grand Beach. These communities will now have access to broadband speeds, allowing them to subscribe to different types of services.

The goal of the company is to provide DSL technology by connecting more communities in these rural areas in the coming year. The company has committed to connecting 20 more rural communities in 2013. Besides the four cottage communities mentioned previously, MTS (News - Alert) has launched DSL-based high-speed Internet services in Langruth, Melrose, Poplar Point and Wabowden. When the DSL service is completed for the remaining 12 communities, the company will have provided 215 communities in Manitoba Access to this very important technology.

"MTS provides high-speed Internet services in more Manitoba communities than any other service provider, and is proud to be expanding our DSL technology to these four communities in 2013. MTS customers can stay connected wherever, whenever - whether they access the Internet on the go using our 4G wireless networks, or are using our advanced DSL and FiON networks at their home or cottage," said MTS President Kelvin Shepherd.

MTS has been operating for more than 100 years in Manitoba. It is the leading full-service communications provider for residential and business customers. It offers a complete line of products and services with the latest technology available anywhere including: home security, high speed Internet, IPTV (News - Alert), and voice and wireless services. Its Allstream branch has been expanding services to reach 10,000 medium and large-sized enterprises in Canada with its SIP trunking service.

The company operates advanced wireless networks in Manitoba with 4G, CDMA and Wi-Fi wireless. Additionally it is implementing a fiber-to-the home network in more than 20 communities.
