Huawei Enterprise Takes an Aggressive Path As Criticism Grows

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

At the recent Huawei (News - Alert) Partner Summit for channel partners, Huawei Enterprise U.S.A, the Cupertino, Calif.-based subsidiary of China’s telecom and IT giant Huawei, stated that the company will not sit complacently as competitors utilize the media and government to criticize it. Huawei Enterprise’s vice president of channels, Rob Claus, said that “competitors have been trying to set the tone of the Huawei brand, and that it is time for Huawei to brand itself based on its technology and innovation.” He added, “Our competitors are not being nice to us. We're not going to be nice to them.”

According to CRN, the U.S. arm of the Chinese telecom giant is still facing accusations from rivals like Cisco (News - Alert) and the U.S. government of conspiring with the Chinese government. The report indicates that such criticism has made it difficult for Huawei Enterprise to establish a U.S. presence, even though the parent company has worldwide operations with revenue of $38 billion.

The report indicates that Huawei partners applauded the company for taking a stand against Cisco and other competitors that have tried to tarnish its image. “Claus' comments were the first time someone articulated Huawei's competitive advantage and portfolio of solutions offerings,” said Joe Asady, CEO of Netfast Technology Solutions (News - Alert)

Further highlighting Huawei’s achievements, Claus said that the company is innovative with in-house talent, and offers probably IT industry’s widest portfolios. He stated, “Huawei doesn't acquire. We innovate,” wrote Joseph F. Kovar, CRN’s senior editor.

Speaking of acquisition, Claus was quick to point out that major competitors like Hewlett-Packard (HP), Cisco and Dell have acquired expertise through acquisitions. For instance, he pointed to HP’s acquisition of Autonomy (News - Alert) and Dell’s buying of Compellant. According to Claus, these acquisitions have created more problems than solutions for the buyers. Unlike these big names, Huawei does not acquire. “We innovate,” asserted Claus.

During his talk at the Summit, the Huawei Enterprise executive also hinted that the company is here to stay and stable, and is determined to be successful in the U.S. The executive also pointed to the fact both HP and Cisco have not been doing well with their partners. However, Claus said that Huawei Enterprise partners like IP Convergence (News - Alert), DataSpan, and Libanga Computer Systems were satisfied with the company’s co-operation and rapid response.
