Apple Plans On Integrating Flickr, Vimeo into iOS 7?

By Monica Gleberman, Contributing Writer

Rumors are floating around that Apple plans on integrating both Vimeo (News - Alert), a video website and Flickr, Yahoo’s photo sharing site into the next simplified version of iOS. iOS is the operating system that runs Apple’s iPhones and iPads. The company is expected to make the announcement during its keynote speech at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Mark Gurman, writer of 9 to 5 Mac, cited unnamed sources to confirm the information on his website. “In the upcoming overhaul of its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch operating system, iOS 7, Apple (News - Alert) plans to include an increased presence of third-party social networks, including Flickr and Vimeo, according to a person familiar with the software,” said Gurman. “Since the new software is yet to be even officially announced, there is a very real possibility that any feature in testing could be removed prior to the announcement.”

If this information is true, it means that Apple users will be able to sign in to Vimeo, Flickr, and any other third party software integrated with iOS 7 through Apple’s settings menus.

After the users sign in, the information will be stored, preventing them from having to log in every time they want to post something to one of the sites. In addition, users will be able to post content directly from the operating system’s interface into Flick and Vimeo, without having to open the individual applications, logging in, grabbing the content, and uploading it through the application.

“It is likely, that just like with Facebook and Twitter (News - Alert), the new iOS integration for Flickr will allow for instant log-in Flickr via various App Store apps…The iOS 7 changes could avoid users needing to sign in for each individual Flickr-connected app,” said Gurman. “Vimeo is a significant addition to iOS in light of Apple’s recent strategy of removing Google (News - Alert) services from its products…Vimeo will be a new video-sharing option that Apple deeply embeds into iOS, giving users an option beyond YouTube.”

Apple has yet to confirm or deny the Vimeo, Flickr integration rumors.
