Atlantis Computing, a Mountain View-based virtualization software company that specializes in data center storage optimization solutions, has managed to raise $20 million in a Series D round of funding, led by the private investment firm, Adams Street Partners.

“Adams Street Partners has been looking to invest in the growing virtualization market for some time, and we are excited to come on board with Atlantis Computing,” said Dave Welsh, a partner at Adams Street Partners. Welsh is also a member of Atlantis Computing’s board of directors.

Adams Street Partners is a new investor in the company, but prior investors Cisco (News - Alert) (News - Alert) Systems, El Dorado Ventures and Partech International also contributed to this financing round. Collectively, the company has raised a total capital of $35 million.

The funding will be put toward the company's global expansion. Currently, the company has flagship Silicon Valley locale, as well as an operation in Europe.

“Funds from this latest round will be used to accelerate our worldwide expansion as we continue delivering on our vision of highly optimized storage infrastructure in the virtualized data center,” said the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantis Computing, Bernard Harguindeguy.

Undoubtedly, past funding has enabled the company to plant roots and fuel its operation.

“We took our first round of funding from venture capital investors in 2010, but have funded our growth through our customers’ business. We built a solid foundation for growth that helped us quadruple the business over the last two years,” Harguindeguy added.

Atlantis Computing was founded in 2006 and presently has more than 250 customers, tripling its customer base over the last year. In fact, it has sold over 300,000 licenses of its desktop virtualization software suite to date.

Atlantis ILIO, the company's star software solution will soon be available for cloud-scale deployments of virtual servers such as databases, collaboration and mail servers.
