Tower Cloud Provides Wireless Backhaul in the Southeast

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Tower Cloud has been a leading backhaul services provider in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina since 2006. It sought to roll out backhaul to wireless carriers, building a network in those states, focusing on laying fiber to cell towers and creating a network.

It has had major deployments in Orlando, Daytona, Atlanta, Augusta (News - Alert), and in several areas of Alabama.

According to George Townsend, senior vice president of business development at Tower Cloud, the company’s core business is building a fiber backbone, whether in a metro area or on the edge. It combines fiber and microwave technology to manage the backhaul, and prides itself in performance, reliability and scalability, meeting all of its SLAs.

Recently, the company implemented a generation independent network in Atlanta. This marks a change in the business model for Tower Cloud, which had previously sold directly to the customer, but now is moving into the wholesale realm. Townsend said the company is known for its customer service and offers quality that others cannot match. He hopes this new initiative brings Tower Cloud’s service to wholesale and enterprise markets, serving such important institutions as hospitals and military bases.

Tower Cloud, according to Townsend, wants to “provide the highest quality network services with fast, on-time delivery and be a leader in developing new solutions that enable [its] customers’ leading-edge growth initiatives.”

As for the future, Townsend sees Tower Cloud as a provider that is well position for changes in the market, as it has worked to future-proof its technology, remaining scalable and flexible and becoming a leader in developing new solutions for advances in leading-edge technology that people can really use.
