Fanhattan is the New Movie App

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

Creating devices or apps with multi-media functions is the next phenomenon in the industry, as it isn’t enough anymore to create a platform with a single function.

With so many video apps available, like Netflix, Hulu (News - Alert) Plus and Amazon, another addition to this mix seems a bit unnecessary. However, while Fanhattan is a video based app, it is one of the first video discovery platforms to enter the Web realm.

The new web-based Fanhattan app will have additional features, like that WatchNow or WatchLater function, which allow users to either instantly begin watching a video, or save it for later. If a movie is still in theaters users can also mark it is a WatchLater item and will be immediately alerted when it is available online.

Since more than 100 million people watch videos online every day Fanhattan has taken its technology to the Web so that users can use their platform to search through the millions of movies and TV shows that are available online.

Fanhattan, originally launched as an iPad app, allows users to search and find content across a range of apps that content and distributors launched on the device. Instead of individually searching video apps and websites, Fanhattan allows users to search across all of those platforms through its app.

The new Web interface will expand the number of content choices and providers that users can search, since websites have more video providers than iOS apps.
