Rhapsody Music Service to be Offered in Ford Vehicles

By Kasey Schefflin-Emrich, TMCnet Contributing Writer

If you’re a driver of a Ford or Lincoln vehicle and are tired of surfing through radio channels to find music you like to accompany you on the road, you will not have to struggle anymore.

Rhapsody International has recently partnered with Ford to enable more than one million Ford and Lincoln vehicles to be equipped with its online music service.

The service will be available through a SYNC AppLink and will allow individuals to use voice commands via Bluetooth and radio buttons, located on the steering wheel, to manage the Rhapsody app on their smartphones.

We want to give customers as many options as we can,” Elizabeth Halash, AppLink product development engineer for Ford, told Bloomberg in an interview. “If they’re already a Rhapsody user, they know the service and use it all the time, we want to allow that in the car as well and to use it hands-free.”

This is Rhapsody's first full automotive integration, which the company is quite excited about.

"Everybody loves to listen to music in the car, so making it as convenient as possible for people to enjoy Rhapsody while driving has been a high priority for us," Jon Irwin, president of Rhapsody, said in a statement."We were pleased to work with Ford on this innovative integration. Now our customers have their favorite music within arm's reach in their cars."

The music service will available on the 2013 Fiesta, Mustang, Expedition, Fusion, F-150, Super Duty, Focus, E-Series and C-Max.

Ford has already equipped its vehicles with numerous other music services such as Pandora (News - Alert), Slacker Media's Web radio and Clear Channel Communications' iHeartRadio.

In addition to Rhapsody, Ford has also added a location tracking service, called Glympse, to its Sync AppLink system, which will allow drivers to notify other individuals of their location through e-mail, text, Facebook or Twitter (News - Alert) by simply pressing a button on the steering wheel and saying "Send Glympse."
