With More Smartphones Activated this Christmas than Ever Before, Verizon Offers Free Workshops

By Colleen Lynch, TMCnet Contributor

This holiday season, specifically on Christmas day, smartphones were the popular gifted item in households across the United States. The devices were so popular in fact, that they have officially broken records and made their way into the history books.

According to Flurry Analytics, in a new report on smartphones and tablets it was revealed hat both devices were activated on Christmas day at an unprecedented level. And due to this surge in in smartphone/tablet activation, Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) has set up free workshops to help customers navigate their new gadgets with ease.

At its local communications stores across the country, the company is now hosting wireless workshops lasting about one hour in order to help users set up their devices. The workshops will be led by specially trained data experts for both Android (News - Alert) and iOS and will cater to small groups or individual users, depending on the popularity of the service.

The tutorials will be hands-on, and Verizon Wireless hopes it will help the Christmas-day activators who are unused to their brand new iPhone (News - Alert) 5 or Galaxy Nexus, for example.

The abilities of smartphones today are nearly unlimited, so users may not know what their new devices can do. Verizon Wireless has created these workshops to help customers learn to use their phones and access features they may be unaware of, so that the phones can be used to their full potential.

For those who received gift cards or money this year, the tutorials can also help a customer decide which device to purchase—and this can be a difficult choice with the number of products on the market today and all their various apps, features and functions.

Log on to www.verizonwireless.com/workshops to locate the closest Verizon Wireless store to you, and the times and programs of the free workshops they offer. To ensure you get the time you need to learn your device and ask questions, the website offers advanced registration, which Verizon Wireless encourages.

Additionally, for those who’d rather sit on the couch in their pajamas and toy with the phone at home, the company has online tutorials now available on its site in both English and Spanish.

Unsure whether to stay in and go at it alone or attend a workshop in-store? Verizon Wireless has a page with customer reviews of the workshops at What I Learned at a Verizon Wireless Workshop to help you decide.
