Cementing the Internet Protocol as THE enabler of the world's widest range of innovative applications, the year 2012 was the year that infrastructure providers around the globe permanently enabled IPv6, particularly for smart objects.
In promoting the successful use of IP throughout the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) markets, the IPSO (Internet Protocol for Smart Objects) Alliance has continued to play a leading role and looks forward to an even more successful 2013.
The IPSO Alliance in 2012, welcomed 12 new members, Aiden Oy, Cubic Global Tracking Solutions, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Grundfos Holding, Maxim Integrated Products, Millennial Net, Nokia, Renesas, Toshiba, Turkcell (News - Alert), United Technologies Research Center Ireland (UTRC-I), and WISENET.
These dozen firms share a common belief in the suitability of IP as the key communications foundational building block and represent an array of markets and end users.
“IP technologies and its related communication standards are one of the key enablers for proliferation of embedded wireless devices,” shared Szymon Fedor of UTRC-I.
He added that for companies like UTC, which provide a comprehensive product portfolio for home and building management, in order to be at the front-end of the technological transformation, it has become critical to understand not only the current communication protocols, but the emerging standards that will be required in the next generation of its products.
UTRC Ireland is looking forward to being an active member of the IPSO Alliance. In enabling future smart home and building solutions, this industry-led group is at the forefront of developing tomorrow's IP standards and membership in the organization will help it extend its leadership role.
At dozens of conferences around the world, including Parks Associates' Smart Energy Summit (US); Mocana's (News - Alert) Amphion Forum (GER); TIA2012 (US); and the M2M Forum (ITA), IPSO members shared their knowledge on the benefits of IP.
