The authors of the study, the Internet Innovation Alliance (News - Alert), said that savings from using the Internet is bigger than ever. The amount of money online customers saved went up from 12.2 percent in 2010 to 13.5 percent in 2011, and those savings are supposed to increase this year. These numbers also seem to indicate that the economy is improving as it was the first upswing in online spending since 2007-2008.
"On Cyber Monday (News - Alert), Americans will log on to take advantage of Internet-only discounts and offers like free shipping," said Nicholas J. Delgado, certified financial planner and principal of Chicago-based wealth management firm Dignitas. "But more and more consumers are realizing that the Internet is an essential ingredient for keeping more money in their pockets year-round with deals regularly available and many online retailers making value their central differentiator."
Free shipping has long been a key factor when it comes to choosing where to shop. Forrester (News - Alert) recently released their own study that showed that 57 percent of online adults shop more with retailers that offer free shipping. People are also going to shop with companies that have deeper inventory and discounts that can be used both online and in stores.
