McAfee's Head of Global Sales Announces Resignation

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

When you are a company that is as highly specialized as McAfee , there is never really a good time to have any bad news. That is why this has been a pretty bad week for the firm, which specializes in keeping users’ computers and software safe and sound. There are few people who follow the tech sector who haven’t heard about the original founder of the company recently being charged with murder. A now nearly penniless John McAfee being accused of murdering his neighbor might be peripheral, but it illustrates that this week was certainly not the best in the firm’s history. In a bit of bad news that could affect the company far more directly, the head of global sales at Intel (News - Alert) Corp's McAfee Security division has announced that he will be leaving to head to another company.

Joe Sexton had been one of just a few top company executives who had stayed on after the company was purchased and absorbed by Intel in February. McAfee (News - Alert) has seen quite a few very important, top executives jump ship since the purchase, including the company’s chief executive along with other key executives in technology development, research and sales. Clearly, this was not exactly a huge surprise to the company, which has already named Sexton’s replacement.   Asia Pacific sales chief, Steve Redman has been named as Sexton’s replacement and will apparently slide into the position almost immediately.

As far as damage control, the company also brought on Penny Baldwin as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Badlwin had most recently served as the acting CMO and senior vice president of global brand strategy and marketing at Yahoo. The company pilfering one of the top executives from a well- known Internet services firm could be a move in the right direction for a company well short of a freefall, but far from being surrounded by positivity these days.
