The holidays are a time in which, for most, thoughts turn to family and friends. It's a time when plenty of old grudges get buried under charity, big meals, and an occasional nip of eggnog. But for the older members of the "family and friends" demographic, sometimes hearing issues get in the way of that enjoyable time of year, and that's why the folks at Clarity (News - Alert) recently brought out the Pal, an unlocked GSM phone that makes those holiday calls that gladden the hearts of seniors gladden their ears as well.
The Pal phone works with any wireless phone service, and essentially operates like an amplified handset for seniors whose hearing may not be the greatest. Not only does the Pal offer an additional 25 decibels of amplification, it also replaces all the unnecessary--and sometimes confusing--apps in a handset with extra features more geared to the senior set.
The Pal offers a two inch color LCD display for easier navigation, as well as a talking caller ID function and visual ringer system. A one touch button marked with a big red heart on the rear panel of the device allows for instant calling and text messaging to certain numbers in the event of emergency. There's a large dial pad complete with illuminated numbers for better visuals, adjustable tone control settings and, just in case that amplification that's already built in isn't sufficient, the Pal is also compatible with hearing aids. The handset itself is also fairly large, making it easier to hold on to, and the few controls there are all pretty handily laid out for ease of use, a clear priority with the Pal.
The Pal was first launched back in May of 2012, and got a wide variety of good reviews from several corners. Now, with the holidays coming around and seniors needing an easy, cost-effective way to keep in touch with those far-flung family members who are plotting a trip home to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah or what have you, a device like the Pal is just the ticket to keep everybody connected.
Admittedly, not every senior may be interested in a cell phone that offers incredible levels of sound amplification, but for those whose hearing isn't what it used to be, a little extra boost may be just what they were waiting for this Christmas...even if it isn't held out for a gift on Christmas morning.
