AMBER, short for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, is a program which contains helpful information regarding a missing child. This program can be used by everyone, including the general public, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the wireless industry voluntarily comes forward to provide law enforcement agencies with any kind of valuable information.
Coordinated by National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the AMBER Alert Program is headed by the U.S Department of Justice. As part of Google’s (News - Alert) Public Alerts program, the search giant has joined the AMBER Alert initiative and has launched AMBER Alert in Google Search and Maps.
In case anyone has any information regarding a missing child, it provides a lot of people with a very easy way to contact the authorities thanks to the wide reach of Google in the online world which proves to be extremely beneficial.
In its blog, Google explains that anyone who uses Google Search or Maps on desktop and mobile, will see an AMBER Alert if they search for related information in a particular location where a child has recently been abducted and an alert was issued. Moreover, anyone who conducts a targeted search for the situation will also see an alert.
The rates of safe recovery will rise because it hopes that by increasing the availability of these alerts through its services, more people will assist in the search for children featured in AMBER Alerts.
Information about the abducted child will be provided by AMBER Alerts along with any other details about the case as they become available. The make and model of the vehicle he/she was abducted in or information about the alleged abductor could be included in as additional details.
AMBER Alerts program is currently specific to the U.S, however to expand the public service measure beyond the United States, Google says it is in talks with Missing Children Europe and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection. AMBER Alert service is also present on Facebook (News - Alert).
