AMD Bundles AAA Titles with its Top-End Cards

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

It's a very common practice for graphics cards to come bundled with free games. After all, gaming is what consumer graphics cards are designed for. However, PC gamers and anyone familiar with PC hardware are probably used to having relatively unknown, unsuccessful or outright older titles bundled with their new top-of-the-line hardware.

AMD (News - Alert) is looking to change this with what amounts to the best bundling initiative ever.

Called the "Never Settle" bundle, the program allows anyone who purchases an AMD Radeon HD 7900-series graphics card to receive copies of two upcoming AAA highly anticipated games: Far Cry 3, Hitman: Absolution, and Sleeping Dogs, which was released in the summer, completely free with no restrictions – a value upwards of $170.

Additionally, 7900-series buyers will receive a 20-percent discount off of Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Meanwhile, those who purchase the Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition, or any card in the Radeon HD 7800 range, will still get Far Cry 3 for freeand 20 percent off of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Those who buy two Radeon HD 7850s or a pair of 7770 GHz Edition cards will receive all of the perks of buying a 7900 card, minus Sleeping Dogs.

AMD is likely looking to offset rival graphics card maker Nvidia's recent success with its GeForce 600 series of cards, which come bundled with a free copy of Borderlands 2, while combating the overall PC market slump.

The company recently announced it would lay off 15 percent of its workforce, close to 1,800 people, before year's end.

The company is still doing well, however, as it was recently named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America for the eighth consecutive year, while also being added to the FTSE4Good Index Series, which highlights AMD's commitment to ethical and sustainable business practices.
