GiffGaff.com Reveals Cell Phone Faux Pas

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

Most people can relate to the drama of the cell phone faux pas: sending an SMS to an ex after a night of drinking, sending a naughty picture to one’s mother by accident or posting something on Facebook (News - Alert) in the heat of anger that may not be appropriate for the world to see. Although people may feel alone when they sober up to face the consequences of their cell phone faux pas, a new survey reveals that you are not, in fact, alone: you are part of the majority.

United Kingdom mobile service provider, giffgaff.com, has completed a very interesting survey conducted on the common mistakes made with cellular phones. Along with Ken’s Tech Tips and MobleFun, giffgaff.com surveyed 10,000 customers to help provide information on common faux pas with mobile devices that will eventually be used as a Pinterest contest,  "Pin it to Win it," with the following hashtag - #giffgaffmobilefauxpas.

The three survey questions were: (1) Have you ever sent a saucy (sexy) message to the wrong person? (2)  Have you ever called or sent a ''bad'' text message to someone when you were drunk? (3) Have you ever taken your phone with you to the toilet?

It seems as though the people living in Liverpool, England topped the list of every chart as the most “guilty” people of these cellular faux pas garnering 91 percent, 93 percent and 93 percent, respectively.

This fun survey may not lead to any groundbreaking discoveries or significant trends for marketers, but it is one that will, undoubtedly, provide comfort to the many people who have inadvertently committed such faux pas. The moral of the survey is: turn off your cell phone when you’ve been drinking, especially if you have a history of getting “brave” with your messages and status updates, and always double and triple check the recipient on a naughty message.
