Early-Stage Companies Pitch Innovations at StartupCamp6 Next Week

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

ITEXPO West 2012 is fast approaching — taking place October 2-5 in Austin, Texas — and will feature a number of exhibitions and keynote sessions. For example, the Microsoft Lync Solutions Pavilion features a number of top Lync Certified manufacturers all in one place, demonstrating their Lync solutions. However, for less established companies looking to make it, StartupCamp is the event most worthy of attention.

StartupCamp is a fast-paced event that provides early-stage entrepreneurs with the chance to pitch communications innovations to an audience made up of industry leaders, media and investors.

StartupCamp6: Comms Edition is set to take place October 4 at ITEXPO West 2012, and the four early-stage companies presenting have been announced. Phonism, RingDNA, Vsnap and Zello will pitch their communication innovations to the audience and judging panel. The event will begin at 4 p.m., to be followed by a cocktail and networking reception party, followed by a keynote by BroadSoft (News - Alert) co-founder, president and CEO, Michael Tessler.

“Every year, selecting startups is the hardest job,” said Larry Lisser, a partner in Embrase Business Consulting and co-founder of StartupCamp.

“This foursome is so dynamic and diverse in their product and marketing strategies. These entrepreneurs are sure to have the audience’s attention from their ability at tackling big problems ranging from back-end provisioning to end-user engagement.”

Phonism is a cloud-based VoIP phone management service that "goes beyond traditional provisioning systems”. The company says it can transform provisioning into a simple task anyone can perform.

RingDNA is a voice communications company. It aims to revolutionize business telephony using its Web-based system to deliver real-time CRM data, social media streams and behavioral marketing information to the right person at the right time with minimal IT infrastructure requirements.

Vsnap bills itself as a "more personal alternative to e-mail." Apparently, customers and prospects take action around 40 percent more often when reached via Vsnap than via e-mail because the former captures tone, emotion, enthusiasm and authenticity in a translatable manner — which text and e-mail fail to do.

Lastly, Zello is described as "social radio for consumer, like voice Twitter (News - Alert)." Zello facilitates more natural communication with voice rather than text, allowing users to participate in or listen to public conversations or stay connected with friends. For businesses, Zello can replace two-way radio or push-to-talk.

Each company will get a maximum of five minutes to pitch to the judge’s panel, which will include: John Frankel, a partner at FF Venture Capital; Stephen Lee, the head of New Ventures at Skype (News - Alert), and; Lynda Smith, a faculty member at Stanford University.

StartupCamp6 is supported by platinum sponsor the Cloud Communications Alliance, along with Cbeyond, Daitan, Phone.com, Shango and Twilio (News - Alert).
