Are you a diehard iPhone lover that will do anything in your power to get your technology-loving hands on the newest version of the smartphone before your friends? If so, make sure your essentials such as food, water, a sleeping bag and tent are arranged and waiting next to the front door because Apple is about to cause some excitement when it officially makes the latest and greatest iPhone (News - Alert) public.
Still unsure of the exact date the device will be available after launched, there is no doubt that people all over the country will be flocking to Apple (News - Alert) stores to pick up the newest edition of this robust smartphone. And even though details of the product are still being kept under wraps, let’s look at some of the rumors currently circulating the Web.
1. What will the product be called?
Although many are speculating that the best-of-breed iPhone will be called the “5,” at this current time the jury is still out. According to an article featured on Engadget’s website, this seems to be the name that is ideal for the next-generation gadget because “Apple has been juggling three iPhones at once. Having to sell the new iPhone alongside the iPhone 4 and 4S carries a risk of complicating the lineup where the iPhone 5 could make it all neat and tidy.”
2. Screen size will be significantly bigger
Something that remains unchanged year-over-year has been the size of the iPhone screen, coming in at 3.5 inches. Thus, industry insiders are agreeing strongly in unison that the technology giant will finally take the plunge and make the screen much bigger—ranging from around four to 4.1 inches.
3. Processor (News - Alert), Processor, Processor
Almost just as important as what it looks like is how fast it can power the things you demand. So, there is a widespread belief amongst the technology community that Apple could be following the steps it has taken with the iPad in releasing a new chip with each release and will now be doing the same with the smartphone.
4. Dock Connector will be much smaller
Purely speculative at this point, this could potentially be the first time since its first launch that the provider will completely revamp its docking port. “It might do more than help Apple strive toward its goals of ever thinner devices – there's been unconfirmed rumors of an easy, orientation-independent design and faster speeds. Regardless of what the connector can do, there's increasing odds that a legion of accessories will be rendered obsolete overnight. We're hoping that murmurs of cheap adapters for older accessories are true,” the piece added.
5. When will it actually be available to buy?
No one but Apple insiders truly know when the brand new iPhone will make its way into the hands of eager users, but it is highly likely the official release date will be on September 21st, as MacRumors recently reported that FedEx is expecting a "surge volume" from September 21 to 24, piling onto the projected date rumors like a cherry on top of an ice cream sundae.
It looks like Web Security and Technology Expert Alan Wlaskuk agrees, telling me “Based on everything I read and history (and nothing from Apple), I am projecting a preliminary order date of September 12 and first ship/store purchase of September 21st.”
The hype for this unveiling is enormous and “the real questions is – can Apple live up to this hype? My personal indicator will be the price of Apple shares – it has recently skyrocketed in part because of Apple’s $1 billion patent win a few weeks back, but also in anticipation of iPhone 5, IOS6 and the rumored new iPad. Apple stock is at $660 today – tomorrow’s price may be the best indication as to Apple’s living up to the hype,” Wlaskuk concluded.
