Gojee Lets you Embrace the Adventure of Cooking

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

We have all stared at our fridge or pantry with a glazed look over our eyes trying to figure out what we can cook with the ingredients at our disposal. The attempt seems futile sometimes and if you are not a professional like most of us it can be frustrating, opting instead for a takeout or making something you are not too happy about eating. For every one of us with this problem technology has come to the rescue once again. Simply put, Gojee picks recipes for you based on the ingredients you have.

If you are the adventurous type this is a perfect tool because you really don’t know the exact recipe the application is going to pick for you. Your only clues are the ingredients you put in the system and the possibilities will definitely test your limits.

"Its biggest value is in a new way to cook something, whether it's chicken or pork or turkey or fish. Often the way it's prepared is what is unique, our overarching goal is to define and carve out the mobile Web that's emotional, pleasurable and visual,” said Michael Lavalle, co-founder and CEO of Gojee.

With over 10,000 recipes from 300 contributors around the world it is safe to assume you will be experiencing culinary delights you never tasted or were not willing to make. The recipes also include a section for drinks so you can create the right cocktail for the frozen strawberries in your freezer.

The service is very easy to use with a user interface designed for your computer and mobile device. Whether it is your smartphone or tablet, you can update your ingredient list at home or while you are at the grocery store and increase the number of recipes you can make. You can type in the ingredients you have or would like to work with or click on a picture of a dish or a drink you would like to try. The service then finds the recipe from an external link and presents it to you. The site does not contain any of the actual content so in reality what it does is search, just like Google (News - Alert), and gives you options.

Lavalle says that the formula Google  uses for searching has to evolve because it is not efficient for the web. The result you obtain has to be presented in an interesting and dynamic way with an intuitive sense of what you are looking for. This approach can be achieved if the site is item or subject specific, but eventually Google will have to adopt this system for all of its searches because if they don’t many services will be established for different industries with their own search capability.

The company is planning to expand to other markets including fashion, art and home décor.
