Digium Wants Asterisk Users to Play 'Phone Tag'

By Tracey E. Schelmetic, TMCnet Contributor

Have you ever played phone tag (News - Alert) with a company? Normally, it’s not much fun and doesn’t really get you anywhere. It certainly doesn’t you anything, except perhaps, a big headache.

Digium, a phone systems vendor and the creator of the Asterisk (News - Alert) communications framework, wants to play phone tag, but this time, it’s to mark a celebration. The company has announced that it is marking the success of its line of IP phones by launching Phone Tag, a new Facebook-based contest that features a chance to win a new Digium (News - Alert) D40 IP phone.

The contest, which was launched yesterday, will run now through September 30, 2012. To participate, Asterisk users are being invited to share their Asterisk experiences by completing a brief form on the Digium Facebook (News - Alert) page. For each tagged friend who enters the contest, the person will receive an additional entry into the drawing.

Digium said in a press release this week that the contest is a fun way to share Asterisk experiences in exchange for the chance to win one of Digium's popular IP phones, which it says are the only phones built specifically for the greatest interoperability with Asterisk.

Here’s how to participate. First, Asterisk users can share their Asterisk stories using the Phone Tag app on Digium’s Facebook page, which may be found at www. facebook.com/DigiumTheAsterisk Company. Then, after users have submitted their stories, they should tag their friends. For each tagged friend who enters, contest participants will receive an additional entry into the drawing.

Winners will be chosen each weekday and will be posted on the Phone Tag winners’ site from September 4th to 30th, 2012. The more friends a participant tags, the better their chance of winning.

The contest is available in the U.S. in accordance with sweepstakes rules. Asterisk developers outside of the U.S. are also invited to share the innovative ways they are using Asterisk by submitting their stories for potential publication on Asterisk.org, or in an Asterisk customer success e-book.
