As LTE Grows, So Must Microwave Backhaul

By Allison Boccamazzo, TMCnet Web Editor

With the continued expansion of mobile networks worldwide and network modernization – such as the introduction of LTE – the U.S. in particular seems to have been taken by storm. In light of this, Aviat (News - Alert), a major provider of wireless transmission systems, is touting what they call an LT-proven backhaul solution which will provide next-generation networks to microwave communications.

Recently, the microwave networking technology company revealed that it was selected by AT&T (News - Alert) Government solutions to provide tactical communications equipment to the Department of Homeland Security. This contract, which requires that Aviat design, build, install and maintain microwave communications facilities for DHS and other federal government agencies, could potentially bring the company $3 million across the next five years.

Specifically focused on providing wireless expertise in advanced IP network migration, Aviat has been proudly building the foundation for the 4g/LTE (News - Alert) broadband future, ultimately enabling wireless transformation around the world.

In other recent news, the company revealed this summer its new multi-year agreement with East Bay Regional Communication Systems (EBRCS), where it will upgrade regional public safety systems for 24/7 monitoring. By embracing and upgrading its monitoring system, there will be minimized latency and delays for immediate public safety data communications, which could end up saving many lives.

Check out the video below where TMC’s Erik Linask (News - Alert) speaks with Stuart Little, director, Product & Regional Marketing, Aviat, at the 2012 Executive Editorial Open House in San Jose, CA about introducing new higher-speed mobile technologies that require upgraded backhaul.

“We’ve been really doing a lot of work to focus in on our core microwave business to expand our solutions in that area to offer more value to our customers,” Little explains in the video above.
