At Cisco Live, cPacket Says There's Room for cVu

By Paula Bernier, Executive Editor, TMC

Intelligent network visibility solution provider, cPacket Networks Inc., was at Cisco (News - Alert) Live last week in San Diego promoting cVu. The appliance provides data center operators with a centralized tool to examine traffic and application behavior for one or multiple sites, explains Rony Kay, president and CTO.

Getting full visibility often requires the use of many different tools, says Kay, who adds that’s not the case with the cPacket (News - Alert) solution. The cVu, he says, offers complete packet inspection, and integrated reporting with visibility into spikes and microbursts. The company’s product does network monitoring, performance measurement, flow load balancing, testing, security and lawful-intercept.

Just last month, cPacket Networks announced a series of enhancements to its cVu product family. The new features facilitate the company’s intelligent “tool hub” approach.

cPacket’s chip is reportedly what allows it to scale. Other differentiators, says Kay, include no installation hassles and no license requirements.

The cVu is in use by many customers across various verticals. The company says the solution offers nanosecond-accurate time-stamping and hardware-based clock synchronization to enable consistent monitoring of one way latency to allow optimization of high-frequency trading platforms in the financial vertical.

Enterprise and government users leverage cVu’s coherent flow-balancing to distribute the security processing of intrusion detection systems over clusters of multiple Snort or Bro instances. Data centers use cVu to access real-time information about performance, capacity and critical health indicators.

ExtraHop Networks and Riverbed (News - Alert) are among the partners of cPacket Networks.

Interoperability between the cVu traffic monitoring switches and ExtraHop's application performance management solution provides proactive early warning, accelerated troubleshooting and real-time mapping and measurement at 10gbps.

“Such visibility is particularly useful for network and data center service assurance, troubleshooting, performance tuning and capacity planning, and for enabling finance, retail, government, telecommunications and cloud services organizations to maintain their competitive edge when speed, efficiency and reliability of application transactions is absolutely business-critical,” according to a press release issued by cPacket and ExtraHop in April.

The other joint solution pairs cPacket’s time-stamping solutions with the Riverbed Cascade application-aware network performance management solution. “Application and network-performance problems can have substantial negative impact on business operations,” Kay noted in March. “Embedding cPacket’s high precision timestamps into the Riverbed Cascade NPM solution enhances monitoring accuracy and helps solve IT performance issues quickly.”
