Twitter (News - Alert) is growing in all kinds of ways: in the number of tweets sent per day, the ad revenue it’s taking in, and even the number of celebrities and brands using it. That being said, would you have ever thought that even an animal could have a Twitter account?
That’s right. I’ll Have Another, a North American thoroughbred race horse, is the first horse to have a Twitter account. So who is doing his tweets?
I’ll Have Another is trained by Doug O’Neil who stated, "The horse is… having a hard time with the hoofs with the keys,” at a Belmont Stakes press conference when asked who was the tweeter behind I’ll Have Another’s Twitter account. It is hard to believe that the winner of the 2012 Kentucky Derby and a favorite to win the Triple Crown has the time to be involved in social media. This exemplifies how it is safe to say that social media has had an impact on everyone’s lives, including this horse.
What should one expect when viewing this Twitter page? The account paints a picture of a horse with his eyes on the Triple Crown. In addition, the Twitter page also gives the reader a look at what life is like “in the barn.”
Although there is no word on whether the horse actually types the tweets himself, or whether he has a secretary, opinions have already started to emerge. A quick poll of the WDRB Web team revealed differing opinions; the first stating, "I think he's got a secretary. A lackey. Something," said WDRB Web producer Travis K. Kircher. "After all, he doesn't have hands. How can you be adept at social media when you don't even have hands? There's something up with that."
In response, Web Producer Dave Creek mentioned, “Not me, I think he writes it himself because that shows commitment.” With differing opinions formulating, WDRB Web Manager Mike Dever concludes the conversation by stating, "This horse is smarter than Mr. Ed.”
It is nearly impossible to imagine a world where social media does not existence, isn’t it? The fact that I’ll Have Another has now entered the ever so popular website, Twitter, truly illustrates that anyone can join the social media force. That being said, when logging onto Twitter, be sure to type in the Twitter address Ill_HaveAnother to be a part of I’ll Have Another’s journey to becoming the Triple Crown winner.
