Apple's New Ads Feature Siri and Stars

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

When Siri first made her debut with the iPhone (News - Alert) 4S, it was all about task management and productivity. She was touted as the best business assistant, as she could schedule your appointments, find what you needed, text your colleagues and so on. But now that Siri has been around for a while, the business factor has turned into a more casual factor, and Siri is being portrayed as a sort of BFF to the stars.

Instead of hiring no-name actors in their commercials, Apple (News - Alert) has tapped Zoey Deschanel and the iconic Samuel L. Jackson to show off Siri’s more personal side. In the respective ads, Siri helps with the actors’ personal schedules, plans a meal, plays music, and so on. Siri, for Deschanel and Jackson, became a friend.

Deschanel’s commercial is for the Sprint version of the iPhone 4S, whereas Jackson is promoting for Verizon (News - Alert). No word yet on who will be the face for AT&T.

These commercials highlight the usefulness of Siri helping with everyday problems, and yes, that includes even famous people. This is a different direction for Apple, as their previous marketing efforts focused on the device itself, whereas now the focus is on the stars-as-themselves just as much as Siri.

Apple has been making headlines in patent news, as the company is rumored to be creating a Bluetooth device that will be able to work with Siri.

According to reports, the Bluetooth device will able to connect with Siri and ask her for a myriad of tasks and requests wirelessly.

According to the United States Patent Office, the wireless headset “allows it to be used during times that the external device with which it is wirelessly coupled is not being used…the media player may be an audio player.”

There has been no official statement on the matter from Apple, but the rumors are in line with the possible new iPhone release.

Siri is also rumored to be showing up in your home and, according to Cult of Mac, who claims to have been told by sources: “Apple is planning a full-on assault to take over the living room”

Apple is working on a television set with an iTunes-integrated touch screen remote and Siri-like voice command technology. Sources told Cult of Mac that the television would launch by the end of 2012.
