Ashton Kutcher to Play Steve Jobs in Apple Founder Biopic

By Kris Holt, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Ashton Kutcher is set to take on one of his biggest movie acting challenges yet, as the “Two and a Half Men” is reported to be playing the role of Steve Jobs (News - Alert) in a biopic about the Apple founder’s life.

The movie, titled “Jobs,” will be directed by “Swing Vote” director Joshua Michael Stern, with the script being written by Matt Whiteley, reports Variety.

The film will chart the life of Jobs from his early days through to founding and guiding the company towards becoming the most valuable firm in the world. In addition to being one of the planet’s most celebrated entrepreneurs, Jobs was also a founder of movie studio Pixar, and was the largest individual shareholder of Disney (News - Alert) at the time of his death.

Jobs died in October 2011, at the age of 56, of respiratory arrest resulting from pancreatic cancer that had spread to other organs. He resigned as the company’s CEO in August of the same year.

“Jobs” is set to start filming in May, while Kutcher is on hiatus from CBS series “Two and a Half Men.” The independent film is being financed and produced by Mark Hulme of Five Star Institute.

Despite being best known as an actor, Kutcher is heavily involved in the technology community. He has investments in a number of companies, including Blekko, Flipboard (News - Alert), Seatgeek and Fab.com. Kutcher is also a hugely popular Twitter (News - Alert) user, with more than 10 million followers on the micro-blogging community.

However, “Jobs” is not the only Steve Jobs biopic in development. Sony Pictures, which produced Facebook (News - Alert) origin story “The Social Network” under its Columbia Pictures subsidiary, is developing its own movie on Jobs life, based on the 2011 Walter Isaacson biography, “Steve Jobs.”
