By Joe Eitel, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Hewlett Packard (HP) Enterprise Services has signed a six-year agreement with Sabre (News - Alert) Holdings to overhaul its networking and storage infrastructure. HP plans to upgrade Sabre’s technology infrastructure by implementing flexible storage solutions and improving the networking environment.

Sabre Holdings, a provider of software to the travel industry, has partnered with HP for the past 11 years. HP will continue to provide core infrastructure services, such as managing Sabre’s customer-facing systems and end-user environments.

HP plans to upgrade Sabre’s core mainframe and migrate data and storage to HP’s hardware system. This includes HP 3PAR and HP networking solutions. Additionally, HP will manage Sabre’s LAN/WAN Internet environment for all devices connected to the network, including PCs, mobile devices and printers.

Barry Vendevier, CIO of Sabre Holdings, hopes the new agreement will help improve product delivery and drive down costs. He recently stated in a press release, “The travel industry is highly competitive, demanding that we develop and deliver innovative products for our customers quickly while keeping costs down." In the past decade, HP has delivered a combination of hardware, software and services to create the reliable infrastructure we need to stay ahead of the competition."

Mike Klause, VP and GM of Consumer and Transportation at HP Enterprise Services, commented on the deal, saying, “HP is best positioned to create an operationally sound infrastructure with improved service levels that will help Sabre remain focused on delivering quality products and services to the travel industry."

Sabre Holdings is a global travel company that has helped over a billion people plan and book travel reservations. It offers software as a service (SaaS (News - Alert)) software as well as consumer-direct travel booking at its website Travelocity®.
