BYOD Security is AirTight with New Fingerprinting Technique

By Julie Griffin, Contributing Writer

The concerns that emerged after many businesses caved into the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) to work trend, have inspired companies specializing in security to create some innovative security solutions such as secure SIMS. But uncontrolled WI-FI access leaves doors open to the exposure of malware and other related malicious activities; additionally, since the variety of devices that employees select for themselves is vast, solutions that can adapt to anything are hard to find. AirTight has created a solution that meets all of the basic security concerns surrounding BYOD. SpectraGuard, a wireless intrusion protection system (WIPS) uses fingerprinting to help keep BYOD under control.

Regardless if the device is a smartphone or tablet, an iPhone (News - Alert), iPad, Android or even Blackberry, SpectraGaurd’s automated fingerprinting adapts accordingly. The fingerprinting method ensures that only the identified owner securely operates his or her recorded devices. The WIPS also has patented Marker Packer techniques that detect Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and Rogue APS. The solution integrates with any MDI (News - Alert) and also provides quick and accurate reports of questionable activity. Jatin Parekh, Vice President of Product Management at AirTight, elaborates to the press about additional details, "AirTight uses correlation of information from over-the-air and on-the-wire packets…Without the right solution, IT security manager do not have visibility into BYOD and are unable to control the risks presented by personal Wi-Fi enabled devicesWPA2/802.1x cannot stop them from connecting to the enterprise network and MDM alone cannot manage BYOD because the personal devices must have a software agent installed and users have no incentive to install one.”

AirTight is a company based out of Silicon Valley that specializes in WIPS issues. The company is trusted globally from industries ranging from government to fashion. AirTight owns many patents, including the one for the SpectraGaurd WIPS mentioned above. The company strives to maintain its reputation as the number one innovator of wireless security and compliance solutions.
